I have a wife and a five-year-old son…. My wife is pregnant with our second child. Also living with us are three girls whose parents abandoned them. We provide food and shelter for the girls….
One of them got pregnant, but she doesn’t love and hardly knows the boy with whom she conceived the baby. She doesn’t want to give birth to the child, and he will not take responsibility as the biological father. We tell her not to have an abortion, but rather to have the baby and then place it for adoption…. I don’t have the economic resources to support two babies…. I tell the girl that I’m not her father, but that I will take care of her like a father, and that she can count on my wife and me. I will not let her go through this difficult time alone.
Dear Friend,
What a wise man you are! And you and your wife are compassionate and generous and merciful. We know that God will bless you for your kindness to these three girls. In fact, Jesus Himself taught about what you are doing, ending one of His parables as follows:
“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me….’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? …’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’” (1)
Christ made it clear in this teaching that what you are doing for these girls, my friend, is as if you were doing it directly for Him! And because you are following His teaching, we know that God will supply your financial needs. Not only will there be rewards once you get to heaven, but He will also provide for you now. (2)
You have made wise and right decisions. We commend you and your wife for rescuing the three girls from the street and for doing your best to save the unwanted child from abortion. That child can be placed in the waiting arms of a loving couple.
Now it is time to turn to God and to let Him do His part to provide the financial resources that you need. Will you submit your whole life to Him and trust Him to provide? Will you ask Him to forgive you of your sins and to give you a new start? Will you lead your entire family in following Christ and depending on Him? You can count on Him to care for you, much like the three girls can count on you to care for them.
We wish you well,
Linda
